Company:

Epogee is a food science and lipid chemistry company developing novel structured lipids for the food industry. Our flagship ingredient, EPG® (esterified propoxylated glycerol), is a patented fat alternative with 92% fewer calories than traditional fats. EPG can be used in a wide variety of food applications (e.g., frying and baking, as well as confectionery and snack applications).

About the Role
Epogee is seeking a Principal Separation Scientist to join our analytical team, with a focus on HPLC and GC method development and execution in support of R&D discovery workstreams.

You will be the analytical “source of truth” to provide objective data to multiple simultaneous workstreams.  A core part of the role is judgment: knowing what level of analytical rigor a given project actually needs, and recommending methods accordingly — whether that's fast directional data or a fully validated, regulatory-grade method. You'll also be integrating the latest AI tools to supercharge your work, from basic data analysis to supporting innovation with rapid iteration.  This is a hands-on, laboratory-focused role for someone who wants to grow their career by deepening their technical knowledge of working with analytical equipment.  You'll report to the Director of R&D, work alongside another member of the analytical team, and collaborate with scientists across the broader R&D group.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and execute HPLC and GC/GC-MS methods for lipid and other molecular characterization, analyte quantitation, and impurity profiling
  • Support multiple discovery workstreams, coordinating closely with other team members
  • Recommend analytical approaches based on project stage and business need
  • Independently troubleshoot instrumentation, methods, and data anomalies
  • Support method validation, gauge R&R, and documentation for regulatory submissions (EFSA, US GRAS, Health Canada)
  • Continually grow your expertise by expanding into additional analytical techniques as needed, including rheology and benchtop NMR
  • Maintain rigorous documentation and data integrity standards
  • Partner with instrument vendors and service providers on qualification and maintenance

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on HPLC and GC experience, ideally in food, lipid, or pharma chemistry
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot instrumentation and methods
  • Strong judgment on matching analytical rigor to project stage and business need — comfortable moving fast when speed matters and being exacting when the situation calls for it
  • Detail-oriented with excellent documentation habits
  • Experience with rheology and/or benchtop NMR, or willingness to cross-train
  • Experience integrating AI tools into scientific or lab workflows
  • Enjoys hands-on lab work and wants to grow a career at the bench
  • Comfortable working closely within a small, cross-functional team

Benefits

  • This is a full-time, in-office role based in New York City. We work onsite five days a week- when the culture fits, it is fun to be in the office together.
  • Salary: $150,000 - $175,000 per year, inclusive of bonus.
  • Company equity options.
  • 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental Insurance.
  • 401(k) with 4% match.
  • Additional perks, such as covered gym expenses.
  • Substantial and required PTO.
