Why join The Boring Company?

Picture a city where crosstown trips run through fast, cheap tunnels and freight moves underneath the streets. The Boring Company, a Bastrop, Texas tunnel builder, is trying to make that world real, and if its machines bring tunneling costs down, cities could treat underground capacity as ordinary infrastructure. A $3.0B Series D from Sequoia and Temasek, with 131 open roles mostly in operations and engineering, shows the build-out is staffing up.

JustBacked's take, based on The Boring Company's own site and its funding and hiring data.

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
As a Manufacturing Integration Engineer at The Boring Company, you will take ownership of mechanical subsystem builds, serving as the primary link between our Mechanical Design Engineering and R&D Production teams. You will be responsible for managing assemblies from initial design through procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, and integration, coordinating resources, schedules, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role within a fast-paced R&D manufacturing environment, where you will work directly with engineers and technicians to solve complex technical challenges and accelerate the development of our Tunnel Boring Machines.
Responsibilities
  • Own the manufacturing and integration of mechanical subsystems, driving hardware from design through fabrication, assembly, testing, and implementation.
  • Serve as the liaison between Mechanical Design Engineering and R&D Production teams, reviewing technical drawings and providing feedback on manufacturability, assembly, performance, and design simplicity.
  • Work directly with production teams to troubleshoot fabrication, machining, and assembly challenges while developing tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage project schedules, coordinate procurement of materials and components, track vendor lead times, and drive critical path activities to meet aggressive development timelines.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and design iterations to ensure subsystems meet overall performance and operational requirements.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, hardware development, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software with the ability to read, interpret, and work from detailed engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and assembly specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication, machining, welding, assembly, or hardware testing in a professional, academic, or personal project setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly challenges.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate across engineering, production, and procurement teams.
