The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our team at Boring Bodega, a vibrant community hub. In this role, you will focus on preparing fresh, high-quality items for our growing to-go food section during early morning hours. You’ll help ensure our customers have convenient, delicious grab-and-go options while maintaining a clean, efficient, and welcoming food service environment. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on kitchen work, takes pride in food presentation, and can accomplish work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and portion fresh grab-and-go food items daily, including sandwiches, salads, wraps, protein boxes, snacks, sides, and other prepared offerings.
  • Operate a commercial deli slicer to safely slice and portion meats, cheeses, and other ingredients as needed for daily food preparation.
  • Use a stovetop and other kitchen equipment to cook and prepare proteins and ingredients for grab-and-go items and daily menu needs.
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines to maintain consistent quality and control food costs.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including FIFO rotation, proper labeling and dating, temperature control, and safe food handling.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary prep kitchen, refrigeration areas, workstations, and grab-and-go food areas.
  • Stock and replenish the grab-and-go display, ensuring it is fully stocked and organized at the end of each shift.
  • Assist with food inventory checks, product rotation, and monitoring expiration dates to maintain health standards and minimize food waste.
  • Coordinate with the front-of-house team to maintain smooth service and respond to customer or operational needs.
  • Maintain high standards for food quality, freshness, presentation, and consistency.
  • Assist with larger-batch preparation and specialty items for occasional events, catering orders, and community activities.
  • Complete all assigned end-of-shift cleaning and closing responsibilities.
  • Perform routine and scheduled deep cleaning throughout the kitchen, including equipment, refrigeration, storage areas, floors, surfaces, and other food-preparation areas.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Previous food preparation, kitchen, deli, café, restaurant, or grocery experience preferred.
  • Genuine interest in and passion for cooking, food preparation, and creating quality food.
  • Comfortable using commercial kitchen equipment, including deli slicers, stovetops, and other food-preparation equipment.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices; ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification is a plus.
  • Ability to safely prepare and cook proteins while following proper cooking temperatures and food-handling procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to consistently complete daily prep and cleaning responsibilities.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with both kitchen and front-of-house team members.
  • Open availability preferred, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be available for scheduled evening shifts from 6:00 PM–11:00 PM, approximately 4 shifts per week / 20 hours per week.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in environments that include refrigeration, heat, and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
