Why join xdof?

Picture robots that learn fine motion from data collected at scale for the world's largest research labs. XDOF, a Berkeley robotics company, could become the motion layer every autonomous system is built on. Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital led its $70M round, bigger than 88% of rounds at its stage, and 24 open roles, 9 in engineering, mean a team of 11 to 50 is still small enough to shape.

JustBacked's take, based on xdof's own site and its funding and hiring data.

At XDOF, we're at an inflection point. Frontier labs are racing to build general-purpose robots, and high-quality training data is the bottleneck. We're building the foundation behind the foundation models – the data collection systems, operational capability, exabyte-scale data warehouse, and software toolchain – to help our partners drive the field forward.

As a Product Engineer at XDOF, you will own the end to end user experience for our data and research platform. This is the interface through which researchers at top frontier labs explore, purchase, and work with XDOF's data.

Sample projects include:

  • building self serve data acquisition flows for researchers

  • working with the infrastructure team to commercialize existing internal XDOF tooling

  • designing visualizers and exploration tools for XDOF's massive datasets

About You

We are looking for a high agency engineer who cares deeply about product quality and wants to build the gold standard for robotics research tooling.

Baseline skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field

  • 3+ years building production web applications

  • Fluency with TypeScript and React, and strong working knowledge of Python

  • Experience collaborating closely with product managers and designers

  • Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and operating production services

You might be a good fit if you:

  • Have strong product taste and care deeply about polish, performance, and user experience

  • Can translate ambiguous customer desires into simple, intuitive product experiences

  • Have a bias for action and prefer shipping small, high quality improvements over big rewrites

  • Are mission driven and passionate about robotics: work at XDOF is fast paced and constant. We hope you love what you're going to be doing, because you'll be doing a lot of it.
