Zeabuz is a Norwegian maritime technology company delivering intelligent navigation, automation and autonomy solutions for commercial and defence operators, with a growing portfolio of real-world deployments across multiple vessel types and operating environments.

We are now looking for a Senior C++ Software Engineer to strengthen our autonomy software team as we enter our next phase of growth.

About the role

In this position, you will take ownership of key parts of our autonomy stack and contribute to the development of software that operates on real vessels in real-world environments. You will work primarily with the planning and control layer of our autonomy system, designing and developing software that directly influences how autonomous vessels navigate and execute missions safely and efficiently.

You will join a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, maritime domain experts and product developers working on complex technical challenges at the intersection of autonomy, navigation and vessel operations. We believe you combine strong software engineering fundamentals with the ability to understand system-level behaviour, make sound technical decisions and contribute to software architecture in a safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain C++ software for the planning and control components of our autonomy stack.

  • Design, implement and improve the software architecture for complex and safety-critical autonomous systems.

  • Contribute to the development of navigation, planning and control algorithms.

  • Collaborate closely with the team to solve complex problems together across disciplines

  • Participate in system integration, testing and validation of autonomous vessel capabilities.

  • Support the transition of autonomy technology from development environments to operational deployment.

  • Analyse system performance and contribute to continuous improvements in robustness, reliability and maintainability.

  • Contribute to technical decision-making, architecture discussions and long-term product development.

  • Support project deliveries and customer deployments across a growing range of vessel applications, including travels and on-site commissioning.

Who we are looking for

  • Analytical and curious, with a strong desire to understand complex systems and how they behave.

  • Comfortable taking ownership of technical challenges and driving solutions from concept to deployment.

  • Structured and quality-focused, with a commitment to building robust, maintainable and reliable software.

  • A collaborative team player who enjoys discussing ideas, challenging assumptions and solving problems together.

  • Able to balance technical depth with a pragmatic approach to delivering value.

Required qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Robotics, Marine Technology, Engineering or a related field.

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in software development.

  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ (17-26)

  • Proven experience designing and developing complex software systems.

  • Experience and domain knowledge in maritime navigation and control systems, robotics or autonomous systems.

Relevant technology knowledge

  • Modern C++ (C++17–C++26)

  • ROS2

  • Linux

  • Docker

  • CMake

What we provide

  • High ownership and responsibility from day one, with the freedom to influence products, projects and technical decisions

  • Work in a modern office centrally in Trondheim, equipped with advanced simulators and access to autonomous vessels for real-world testing.

  • Close collaboration with experienced engineers and maritime specialists in a multidisciplinary team

  • Continuous opportunities for learning, professional growth and increased responsibility as both you and the company develop

  • A collaborative and informal culture built on trust, initiative, knowledge-sharing and shared ownership

  • An opportunity to impact the direction of a growing company and share the financial rewards of our long-term success

  • Competitive compensation
